GSAT-16 is a commercial communications satellite owned by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

It was put into geostationary orbit together with DirecTV-14 on December 6, 2014 at 20:40 UTC with an Ariane 5 ECA launcher from the ELA-3 launch pad in the Center Spatial Guyanais near Kourou .

The three-axis stabilized satellite is equipped with 12 Ku-band , 24 C-band and 12 extended C-band transponders and is to be viewed from 55 ° East (together with GSAT-8 , IRNSS-1A and IRNSS-1B ) provide telecommunications services to the Indian subcontinent. It was built on the basis of the I-3K satellite bus from ISRO and has a planned service life of 12 years.
