The star GSC 02620-00648 is located in the constellation Hercules and is about 1400 light years away from Earth . It is bigger and hotter than our sun , it is also much more luminous than our sun and emits three to four times as much energy per second.
GSC 02620-00648 is almost the same age as our sun, but it is much more advanced in its evolutionary development. The reason is that it is more massive than our sun and therefore evolves much faster. It has already become a sub-giant that has used up its hydrogen in its core and will expand into a red giant in about a billion years , similar to Arcturus or Aldebaran .
GSC 02620-00648 is known for the very large exoplanet TrES-4 , which orbits the star at a very short distance. In the phase in which GSC 02620-00648 evolves into a red giant, there is a very high probability that it will devour this planet.
