Gabi Loose , née Schmid , is a former German canoeist .

Athletic career

Loose comes from Augsburg and started in the canoe slalom in the kayak discipline, initially for the Augsburg kayak club , and later for Kanu Schwaben Augsburg . It achieved its greatest successes in the mid-1980s. At the Canoe Slalom World Championships in 1985 in her hometown, she won the silver medal in the team competition with Margit Messelhäuser and Ulla Steinle . Loose also won several titles at national level: in 1981 and 1987 she became German champion and in 1980 and 1983 German runner-up in single kayaks. In the team competition she became German champion in 1980 and German runner-up in 1981. In the early 1990s, Loose was active in New Zealand , where she won the DB Trophy Ladies K1 Slalom Cup and took part in a canoe triathlon .

After retirement

Loose worked for a time as a boat guide for a rafting company and continued to occasionally take part in senior canoeing competitions.
