Gabriel Rossi (born May 6, 1930 in Marseille , † October 19, 2009 in Toulon ) was a French football player .

Career

The 175 centimeter tall Rossi, who was called up in defense as well as in defensive midfield , officially belonged to the squad of the first division club Olympique Marseille from 1947 . During the 1947/48 season, however, he was not called up once, which is why he did not have a share in the championship title won in 1948. The then 18-year-old made his professional debut when he ran up on October 31, 1948 in a 3: 4 defeat in a first division match against Stade Reims . From then on he was only called up sporadically at a time when substitutions and substitutions were not yet possible. The next few years did not change anything about this situation, but Rossi was content with the role of supplementary player and remained loyal to the club. His loyalty was rewarded when he was seeded as part of the first team in the 1954 national cup final . He took his position in defensive midfield and was one of his number of players who were noticeable from the start due to lack of concentration and a lack of game overview. Accordingly, it was already 2-0 after eleven minutes in favor of opponents OGC Nice . Marseille could not catch up, lost 2-1 and Rossi had missed his chance to win a title.

Immediately after the cup final, his time in Marseille ended in the summer of 1954 and he found a new employer in the second division RCFC Besançon . With this he immediately became a regular player and remained for the duration of four seasons an integral part of a team with which he mostly placed in the lower half of the table. In 1958 he moved to league rivals FC Sète , where he was also a top performer. In 1960, however, the club had to withdraw from the professional business due to financial problems and the player then moved to SC Toulon, who had been relegated from the first division . At Toulon he was like before in Sète to the regular players before he lost this position during the 1962/63 season. In 1963, at the age of 33, he ended his professional career after 37 first division games without a goal and 275 second division games with three goals.
