Gabriel und der Berg is a Brazilian-French film from 2017. It traces the African trip of the Brazilian backpacker Gabriel Buchmann through several countries, in the meantime with his girlfriend until he finally climbs Mount Mulanji in Malawi . Several Africans that Buchmann met on his trip play themselves. The director, filmmaker Fellipe Barbosa, was a childhood friend of Buchmann's. The film won the France 4 Visionary Award and the Gan Foundation Support for Distribution at the Cannes Film Festival 2017 and the APC Award and the award for the best camera for Pedro Sotero at the Lima Latin American Film Festival 2017, for the best Brazilian film at the São Paulo International Film Festival 2017 and the Prize of the Association of Film Critics of São Paulo 2018 for the best screenplay.
