Gabriele Schiessling (born May 26, 1962 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and graduate social worker. She was a member of the Tyrolean state parliament from 1999 to 2016 .

Life

Schiessling attended elementary and secondary school in Innsbruck and graduated in 1981 from the college for economic women's professions. She then switched to the Academy for Social Work in Innsbruck, which she graduated with a diploma in 1983. As a result, she accepted a job as a qualified social worker at the Innsbruck State Hospital. She currently has a part-time position at the university clinic.

Schiessling was involved in the union at her workplace and was elected works council member in 1988. Between 1992 and 1996 she worked as a central works council. After standing as the top candidate on the list of names "Am Puls" for the works council in 1988, she ran together with the list of "Social Democratic Trade Unionists" in 1992. Schiessling subsequently worked in the parliamentary group of social democratic trade unionists (FSG) and between 1994 and 2006 was the women's chairwoman of the FSG in the ÖGB Tirol. From 1994 to 2000 she was also a member of the Tyrolean Chamber of Labor . According to her own statements, the main focus of her work was the struggle for equal pay for work of equal value, a sufficient number of childcare places and the financial security of women. Schiessling has represented the SPÖ in the Tyrolean state parliament since 1999. In the XIV legislative period, she is the chairman of the committee for “Labor, Social Affairs and Health” as well as the deputy chairman of the “Committee for Society, Education, Culture and Sport”. After the state elections in Tyrol in 2008 , Schiessling was considered the most promising candidate for the office of regional councilor in the Platter regional government . Schiessling announced before the decisive meeting in the state party executive that he only wanted to remain simple MPs.

In addition to her political function, Schiessling has also been a board member of the Austrian Cancer Aid in Tyrol since 1998 and was a board member of the Tirolean Social Medicine Association until 2005. Until 2006 she was also President of the Tyrolean People's Aid .
