Spas-Klepiki ( Russian Спас-Клепики ) is a small town in the Ryazan Oblast ( Russia ) with 5916 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located in the central part of the Meshchora lowlands about 70 km northeast of the Oblast capital Ryazan on the Pra , a left tributary of the Oka, which flows into the Volga .
Spas-Klepiki is the administrative center of the Klepikowski rajon .
history
The place has been known as Klepiki since the 16th century . After a church was built, the name Spasskaja (from Russian spas for savior ) passed to the place that was now run as Spasskoje, also known as Klepiki .
In the second half of the 17th century, the village developed into a trading place with a cloth factory on the lively Kassimower tract , the road from Moscow to Kassimow . By the middle of the 19th century, the production of wadding and tow from the linen and cotton weaving mills of the Moscow and Vladimir governorates developed into an important branch of the economy in the surrounding villages .
In 1920 the city charter was granted under the current name, which combines the old names.

Culture and sights
There is a Yessenin Museum and a Museum of Wood Carving in the city.
The city is located in the middle of the Meshchorsky National Park, which was founded in 1992 for the protection and orderly use of the Meshchora . The administration of the 103,014 hectare park is located here.
Economy and Infrastructure
There are textile and shoe industries in Spas-Klepiki.
Through the city, the regional road leads R105 (Moscow-) Ljuberzy -Kassimow as taught herein, the R123 to Rjasan branches.
Spas-Klepiki was located on the narrow-gauge railway ( 750 mm gauge ) Ryazan- Tuma , which was opened in 1899 and which was shut down in sections from 1972 and finally in 1999.
