Pitelino ( Russian Пите́лино ) is an urban-type settlement in Ryazan Oblast in Russia with 2,257 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The place is a good 130 km as the crow flies east of the Ryazan Oblast Administrative Center in the area between the right-hand Oka tributaries Mokscha and Pjot .

Pitelino is the administrative center of the Rajons Pitelinski and seat and only town of the municipality Pitelinskoje gorodskoje posselenije.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1626. From the end of the 18th century he belonged to the Ujesd Jelatma of the Tambov governorate .

On July 12, 1929, Pitelino became the administrative seat of a newly created Rajons named after him. Since 1967 the place has had the status of an urban-type settlement.

To the west of the settlement runs the regional road 61K-012, which branches off about 60 km south in Shazk from the federal trunk road M5 , through the neighboring district center of Sassowo and from Pitelino on to Kassimow . In Sasovo, 25 km away, on the Moscow  - Ryazan - Rusajewka  - Syzran route, there is also the nearest train station.
