Rybnoje ( Russian Рыбное ) is a city in the Ryazan Oblast ( Russia ) with 18,380 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city is located about 20 km northwest of the Oblast capital Ryazan on the Voscha , a right tributary of the Oka, which flows into the Volga .

The satellite city of Ryazan is the administrative center of the Rajon of the same name .

history

The place was first mentioned in 1597 as the village Rybino . The name is derived from the Russian ryba for fish .

After the railway was built, the village grew rapidly from the end of the 19th century, receiving the status of an urban-type settlement in 1947 and town charter in 1961.

Culture, education and sights

There is a local museum in Rybnoye and a Sergei Yesenin Memorial Museum in the nearby village of Konstantinowo - the poet (1895–1925) was born there.

In Rybnoye there is a Scientific Research Institute for Horse Breeding (NII konewodstwa) and a Scientific Research Institute for Beekeeping (NII ptschelowodstwa) .

Economy and Infrastructure

The city lies on the Moscow – Ryazan railway line opened in 1864 (route kilometers 180). Here is an important marshalling yard with a large depot and workshops, which are the most important companies in the city. There are also companies in the food industry based on the products of the surrounding agricultural area.

The M6 Moscow – Ryazan – TambovVolgogradAstrakhan road runs past Rybnoye to the southwest.
