history
Not far from the village of Jerino, significant limestone deposits had already been discovered at the turn of the 19th century; In 1912 the first cement plant was built on this basis. The workers' settlement created at the factory was given the status of an urban-type settlement in 1927 under the name Oktjabrski (from Russian oktjabr for 'October', here in reference to the October Revolution ). The old village of Jerino and another nearby workers' settlement called Spartak (Russian for Spartacus ) were incorporated. To this day, the term Oktjabrski is mainly used in official language, while Spartak is used colloquially .
