Pronsk ( Russian Пронск ) is an urban-type settlement and former city in Ryazan Oblast in Russia with 3943 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The place is a good 50 km as the crow flies south of the Ryazan Oblast Administrative Center on the right, eponymous Oka tributary Pronja .

Pronsk administrative center is the Rajons Pronski and seat and only town of the municipality posselenije Pronskoje gorodskoje.

history

The place was first mentioned in the Nikon Chronicle for the year 1131. During its existence it belonged to the Principality of Ryazan until the 16th century . From 1778 Pronsk had the modern city charter as the administrative seat of a Ujesd of the governorship, from 1796 of the Ryazan governorate .

In 1926 Pronsk lost its town charter, but on July 12, 1929 , as a village (selo) , it became the administrative seat of a newly created Rajons named after him. Since 1958 the place has had the status of an urban-type settlement.

The regional road from Ryazan runs through Pronsk on the federal trunk road M5 to Skopin , a good 30 km south , where there is a connection to the federal trunk road R22 Kaspi . In an easterly direction a road branches off to the nearest railway station, Khrushchevo , about 25 km away on the Moscow  - Ryazan - Voronezh / Saratov route .
