The Pra ( Russian Пра ) is a 167 km long left tributary of the Oka in the European part of Russia .

course

The Pra rises in the Swjatojesee ( Russian Озеро Святое , Osero Swjatoje) on the border of the Moscow and Ryazan oblasts . It leaves the lake at its southwestern end and flows in a southwestern direction along the border of the oblasts. After about 12 km it turns in a southerly direction and now flows through the Meschtschora lowlands in the area of Ryazan Oblast .

Here it flows through Lake Sokorevo ( Russian Озеро Сокорево , Osero Sokorewo) and Lake Martynovo ( Russian Озеро Мартыново , Osero Martynowo). The river now flows east and reaches Spas-Klepiki . Here it turns south and now flows through partly dense coniferous forest. The river forms numerous oxbow lakes and takes in many smaller streams that drain the swampy area.

At the village of Deulino the Pra turns in an easterly direction. From now on it flows in the area of the Oka nature reserve ( Russian Окский заповедник , Okski Sapowednik). After the confluence of the Kad , it turns south again and flows through the wooded central Ryazan Oblast. East of Kidusowo it turns again to the east. It now meanders very strongly and repeatedly splits into several arms . About 30 kilometers southwest of Kassimow it finally reaches the Oka.

Hydrology and tourism

The Pra has an average gradient of 0.141 m / km and is between 20 and 25 meters wide. The river freezes over at the end of November and remains under ice until April. In the ice-free time it is used for tourism by boat hikers .
