Gabriella Szabó (table tennis player)

Gabriella Szabó [ ˈɡɒbriɛlːɒ ˈsɒboː ] (born December 13, 1959 ) is a Hungarian table tennis player . In the 1970s and 1980s she achieved many national and international successes.

National successes

Szabó played in the club Statisztika Budapest , with which she was Hungarian team champion 12 times without interruption from 1973 to 1984. She won the Hungarian championships in 1976 in women's doubles (with Judit Magos ) as well as in mixed games in 1977 and 1978 with Tibor Klampár and in 1982 with István Jónyer . She also won the TOP10 ranking tournament in 1982.

International success

Szabó took part in the European Youth Championships four times. In 1974 she won the individual title in Göppingen. In 1975 she won the mixed title with Janos Molnar and took second place in 1974 and 1977. She won with the Hungarian team in 1977.

Between 1976 and 1984 she was at all five European championships . She achieved her greatest successes with the Hungarian women's team, which won the title in 1978 and 1982 and advanced to the final in 1980. In 1978 she also took second place in doubles and mixed. She won the Europe TOP-12 in 1979 and was third in 1980.

Participation in the World Championships in 1977 , 1979 and 1983 did not bring any top ranks, only in 1979 she came in the last eight in singles, doubles and mixed.

Private

Szabó was married to the table tennis international and Hungarian champion from 1966 Sándor Harangi since 1979 . In 1985 she got her second marriage with the wrestler Ferenc Kocsis .
