from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gabrielle Hamilton (* 1966 in New Hope , Pennsylvania ) is an American cook and restaurant owner.

Life

Hamilton was left on his own with her parents' separation in early youth. Her mother was a French cook who made strange things for American cuisine. She accepted her first job in a kitchen when she was thirteen, pretending to be sixteen. Over the years she rose from the position of kitchen helper to an assistant cook in various catering companies .

In later years, Hamilton began studying literature, graduating with a master's degree in creative writing from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor . In October 1999, she opened her restaurant in New York City , which wasn't supposed to serve conceptual or intellectual food, but rather things that you feel like eating when you are really hungry . Through her husband Michele, she got to know the Italian style of sociable cooking, and she has incorporated Italian into her kitchen. Her restaurant is on East 1st Street in Manhattan's Upper East Village and is called Prune , which she nicknamed as a child.

Hamilton lives in Manhattan with her two sons.
