Gaius Prastina Messalinus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gaius Prastina Messalinus was a Roman politician and senator of the 2nd century AD.

The origin and descent of Messalinus are unknown (perhaps from the Spanish provinces ). As a legate of legio III Augusta , he was de facto legate of the Roman province of Numidia . Messalina must have left Numidia in the course of 146, since he took up the ordinary consulate in Rome on January 1, 147 . According to his consulate, Messalinus was presumably the legate of the province of Moesia inferior (Lower Moesia ) between 148 and 151 (?). Probably a son of Messalinus was Prastina Messallinus, who is attested as a legacy of the province of Pannonia superior under Commodus .
