Galaxy on Fire is a series of computer games developed by the German game developer Fishlabs , which so far comprises the games Galaxy on Fire , Galaxy on Fire 2 and Galaxy on Fire Manticore Rising , all of which were first released for Apple mobile devices. Most of them are shoot 'em up games, only the Galaxy on Fire - Alliances , released in November 2013, is an MMOG ( Massively Multiplayer Online Game ).

The games feature three races, the Terrans (humans), the Vossk and the Nivelians , in the second game there are also the Midoians , an association of Nivelian rebels, Terrans and shady figures. Terrans and Vossk as well as Nivelians and Midoians are at war with one another. GOF and GOF 2 offer stories in which you act as the fleet veteran Keith T. Maxwell .

story

Galaxy on Fire

In the first game of the saga, set in 3587 AD, you get to know the main character Keith T. Maxwell , a former pilot of the Terran Fleet. Many characters from the first game, including the drug dealer Mkkt Bkkt and the security officer of the Terran fleet, Brent Snocom , also appear in the second part, where they sometimes play decisive roles. Also important in the first part is Keith's lover Christine Hammond , who perishes in the fight against the traitor Vlad Borsikov and is later avenged by Keith.

Galaxy on Fire 2

The story of the second part follows on from the first part eleven years apart. Keith ends up in the Midoian sector in an accident. There the unconscious Keith and his ship are picked up by the ore trader Gunant Breh and brought to the space station on the planet Var Hastra , where he then wakes up and has to be clarified by Gunant about the events. Keith's ignorance of the Mido Alliance and the Void, an aggressive alien race mentioned by Gunant, lead the ore trader to investigate the Terran's ship. This is how Gunant finds the reason for his astonishment: the ship and the pilot were not only thrown to a distant place, but also 35 years into the future.

Keith is given an old spaceship and leaves Var Hastra. After a few detours he comes to the Terran sector, where he meets Lieutenant Commander Brent Snocom again after a long time. He helps him and tells him about well-paid jobs as a fighter pilot for the secret Terran research project Deep Science , which is desperately looking for a solution in the fight against the Void. So Keith goes to Thynome , the seat of the secret project, and meets the head of the project, Dr. Know Carla Paolini. Keith lands with her through a wormhole, the Void's attack tool , in the previously unknown Voidspace , where the two see the Void's mother ship, which generates the wormholes. This discovery helps Deep Science with the return of the two to develop a bomb against the Void, which can destroy the mother ship and thus make the generation of the wormholes and the associated attacks by the Void impossible. During the development, Keith has to go to the Void territory again for the Gray Khador , as the researcher needs crystals that can only be found there. When Keith brings the required material to Thynome, he learns from Khador what the crystals are used for: a drive that would allow one to travel to any location in the galaxy, provided one had the necessary coordinates. This convinces Keith to help with the completion of the drive, but this takes a back seat in the game and does not affect the continuation of the story.

The bomb must get into the voidspace and reach the mother ship safely. A special Vossk freighter is required for this. A Vossk named Errkt Uggut flies such a freighter until just before the mother ship, but is hit and lands the heavily damaged freighter on the mother ship. All technical equipment fails and with the last of his strength, Errkt calls on Keith to destroy the freighter, which means the activation of the bomb and Errkt's death. Reluctantly, Maxwell obeys and then disappears at the last moment through a wormhole before the bomb explodes and destroys the mother ship. Celebrated by the Terrans, Keith returns to Thynome, where he has a (already often postponed) date with Carla. He and Carla are in a relationship that will shape the subsequent two stories of the add-ons Valkyrie and Supernova . The story of the base game ends with the sudden departure of Carla, about whom Keith only learns the next morning.

Galaxy on Fire 2 - Valkyrie

Keith meets Corneluis Tenner, who works for the arms dealer Alice, whom Keith would like to hire for some missions. His first assignment is to steal the K'Suuk , a Vossk ship that has not yet been released for the market, and bring it to Tenner, with Alice taking advantage of the Vossk Taret Orssk's debt , which he has with her, to bring Keith the ship to make accessible.

After Keith has completed the first life-threatening mission, he flies to Valkyrie in the isolated Herjaza system. He meets the arrogant Alice in her conspicuous ward and takes several orders, all of them dangerous, but well paid. When Alice has nothing more to do for him for a while, Keith is contacted by his girlfriend Carla. She tells him about a new Deep Science station called Kothar , also in an unknown system that can only be reached with the Khador drive. He immediately flies to Kothar and learns from Carla that Khador was kidnapped during a test flight with a new ship with an integrated Khador drive. Keith follows Khador and ends up in the middle of a pirate-ruled system. After a brief fight, he learns that Khador has been brought into the neighboring orbit and is able to free him. A little later he is called by the angry Alice, goes to Valkyrie and is supposed to search a pirate station with Cornie.

The two are unsuccessful and Cornie - fearing the wrath of his superiors - flies back to Valkyrie, while Keith is ordered to take control of a convoy that allegedly has weapons loaded. However, when he asks the leader of the paralyzed convoy about the destination and cargo, he learns that the convoy is actually supposed to bring components for several Khador drives to Kothar. Accompanied by Keith, the convoy reaches its destination and Keith tells Carla, who is amazed at what happened, about Alice, who turns out to be Carla's sister.

So it happens that the brave pilot, despite Carla's warning, goes to Valkyrie to find out more about the machinations of Carla's sister. At Khador's request, Keith used the Cronus , the ship with which the Gray had completed the dangerous test flight. This will save Keith, because after Keith confronts Alice in Valkyrie and finds out that she wants to build the Khador drive and sell copies, the arms dealer has Keith's ship searched and the second drive, which he had carried for safety reasons, expanded. So it happens that because of Keith's unfortunate mention of the Kothar station and the replicas of the drive located there, she flies her entire station there.

Keith is thrown from the station before jumping and encounters a fleet that Alice has hired to destroy him. But thanks to his second khador drive, which the criminal knows nothing about, he comes to Kothar in time to witness how Valkyrie partially destroys Kothar with a laser beam (the beam is reminiscent of that of the Death Star from the Star Wars films). He can destroy the laser generators and the Valkyries turrets, forcing Alice to retreat. But the jump fails and she ends up in the void space, which means that the void from the first part is important again.

Keith lands on Kothar and is greeted by Carla, terrified by the attack. As in the first part, the two have a date in the Space Lounge and then go to Carla's apartment ...

This is how the add-on Valkyrie ends, whereby the end can be described as a "cliffhanger", as Alice's fate remains uncertain.

Galaxy on Fire 2 - Supernova

The third part of the series begins with Deep Science acting on thynomials again because of the severe damage to the Kothar station. Keith moves in with Carlas. A small cutscene appears, titled " Meanwhile in the Midoian Sector ... " in which you can see a Midoian station and some Midoian ships.

Keith receives a call from Gunant, who desperately asks the man, who is now considered the best pilot in the galaxy, for help: his son, Gunant IV. , Was locked in a freighter, but because of the radiation from a supernova no one came to his aid. Keith immediately flies into the affected Ginoya system, saves Gunant's son and takes him to a rescue freighter in the neighboring orbit. But during the transfer he is attacked by three mysterious stealth hunters, who are able to evade his radar for a short time. He defeats them and finishes the surrender, then with the help of the khador drive he jumps into an unaffected system in time to meet Bargand Surr , the leader of the Midoian rebellion and the head of the evacuations. He reports on the supernova and the stealth fighters. With a shield that protects him from the gamma rays of the supernova, he helps with several evacuation operations.

He then flies to Thynome, where the Deep Science research team is looking for a means to contain the supernova, and flies with Khador into the supernova to shoot a rocket constructed by Gray into the exploded sun. However, due to miscalculations by Khador, this rocket does not contain the supernova, but increases it. Devastated by his mistake, the researcher locks himself in his laboratory after returning, but Keith flies to Brent Snocom, who did not appear in the "Valkyrie" add-on but plays an important role in "Supernova". Brent, who is always up to date on Deep Science's activities, tells Keith that the Nivelians, amazingly, have agreed to help their enemies.

Keith meets with Trunt Harval , the head of the Nivelian military division. They both exchange information, and Harval is surprised that Keith managed to defeat the stealthers. In the meantime, Thadelonius Moonsprocket , one of the most intelligent researchers in the GOF Universe, returns to Thynome, pleading that he has found a solution to the supernova. But the professor, unpopular because of his behavior, is sent away by Carla shortly afterwards, but fortunately leaves behind his "data stick" (in GOF a very ancient storage medium, probably comparable to the USB stick that is common today). When Carla examines it out of desperation, she realizes that Moonsprocket's plan is actually the best way to contain the supernova. The professor, who has since left with his psychiatrist Brillo Lampeter , is therefore searched for by Keith and then found in the Pescal-Inartu system, but both are drunk on a special drink that is sold by Keith's old friend Mkkt Bkkt.

The antidote that Keith has to fetch deep in the Vossk area is highly explosive and has to be brought through several systems by the pilot on an arduous path. The transport succeeds and Keith returns to Thynome with Moonsprocket and Lampeter. Moonsprocket explains his plan to build a plasma array and says that four specific prisms, the Paréah prisms and chromoplasm are needed for this. Keith searches for the prisms, is able to recover one from the wreckage of a freighter and learns that one is in the possession of a wanted criminal, another with a Midoian ore mining company, and another with the Vossk. He gets all the prisms, helps to complete the chromoplasm and then watches the activation of the array. But suddenly several stealth fighters appear under the direction of Trunt Harval and destroy the plasma array. Unlike his colleagues, Khador, who has since recovered from his setback, keeps his nerve and has the chromoplasm and prisms collected, but finds that the platform has been completely destroyed. This is what he calls the only way to get a new platform: You have to get Alice to give up her station.

So Keith flies to Voidspace, negotiates with Alice and receives instructions for an alternative to living. He finds a penthouse on Kalun Amir that meets all the criteria and returns to Alice. But this needs energy cells (the best energy storage option in GOF), which forces Keith to fly to Brent in Alioth in order to get the required amount from the reserves of the Terran space fleet there. He is accompanied by the station pilot Hans to Valkyrie, but when they arrive in Voidspace, they are received by a large squadron of Void fighters. Alice forces them to unload the energy cells and then gives the squadron the order to attack. Keith and Hans manage to break into the station through the air shaft and arrest Alice, whereby they find the reason why the Void listened to the impostor: She connected Tenner's brain tissue to that of a Void, so that this is now with the Aliens can communicate.

Hans flies Valkyrie into the Ginoya system, while Keith takes Alice to Damarque I , where she is arrested. When Keith returns to the Plasma Array, he discovers that Brent, who is also present, has brought a large Terran fleet with him to protect the array. As expected, the Nivelians attack again, but suddenly Alice, who has escaped from prison, appears in the fight and docks at her station. She now has control of the plasma array and would like to disappear with her station, but only flies further and further towards the supernova, pursued by Harval and Maxwell. When she realizes at the last moment that her attempt to escape is pointless, she activates the plasma array, which leads to the normalization of the sun, the destruction of Valkyrie and Alice's death.

However, it does not end there, because Harval survives and wants to escape, but when he realizes that Keith is still alive, he takes up the fight with him. During the battle it is learned that the supernova was triggered by a Nivellian probe and was supposed to crush the Mido Alliance by bringing the Midoians of Nivellian origin to re-education camps. Keith records the entire confession and defeats Harval in a long fight. Then Keith, Brent and the deep science team meet. Brent reports on the overthrow of Harval's junta and the Nivelians' recognition of the Mido Alliance. Finally, Keith, Moonsprocket and Lampeter Mkkt Bkkt meet in the Pescal-Inartu system and drink together. This ends the last add-on and thus the story of Galaxy on Fire 2.

Galaxy on Fire - Alliances

In contrast to the other parts of the series, you don't fly spaceships in this part. Instead, it's a multiplayer game in the Galaxy-on-Fire universe. The game servers were shut down on June 28, 2019.

Galaxy on Fire 3 - Manticore

This is the last game in the saga where you fly spaceships again. In this part only missions are flown.
