Gale Hess

Gale Hess (born February 22, 1955 in Calexico , California , † January 2, 2012 ) was an American jazz violinist and composer .

Live and act

Gale Hess grew up in Dallas and studied at the Royal College of Music in London . Then she worked a. a. with various ensembles and orchestras such as the Vivaldi Concertante in London, Teatro dell Opera in Rome and the Filarmonica da las Americas in Mexico City . In 1973 she played first violin in the WT White Orchestra .

She became known in the Dallas area above all with the band Cafe Noir , which she co-founded in 1985 , to which Lyles West, Randy Erwin, Jason Bucklin and Norbert Gerl belonged. Stylistically, the band played in the range of ethnic jazz and gypsy jazz . She recorded a few albums with Cafe Noir , including the debut album of the same name (1988), Window to the Sea (1993) and The Waltz King (1994). In Dallas she performed a. a. also in 1995 with Jimmy Page and Robert Plant ; after leaving Cafe Noir , she worked with Cirque du Soleil .

She died of cancer on January 2, 2012 at the age of 56.
