Galeazzo Caracciolo
Galeazzo Caracciolo (born January 1517 in Naples , † 7 May 1586 in Geneva ) was an Italian Protestant during the Renaissance .
Life
Caracciolo came from the Neapolitan noble family Caracciolo and was related to the Carafas through his mother, a sister of the future Pope Paul IV , and his first wife Vittoria, whom he married in 1537 . Caracciolo found his first contact with Protestantism through the circle of Juan de Valdés in Naples. Finally in 1551 he went to Geneva forever without a wife and children and became a leading figure in the Italian Calvinist community. When his uncle ascended the papal throne as Paul IV, he made him an offer to live on Venetian territory, which Caracciolo rejected out of distrust of the popes.
