The Galerie der Künstler is a forum for current art positions in Munich and Upper Bavaria and maintains contacts with the international art scene. It promotes contemporary art, mostly young and (still) unknown artists from Munich and Upper Bavaria with seven to eight exhibitions a year.

The gallery of artists is supported by the Professional Association of Visual Artists Munich and Upper Bavaria e. V. (BBK), who represents the legal, economic, social and cultural-political interests of regional artists. The association is a sub-organization of the Federal Association of Visual Artists .

history

The BBK has existed since the beginning of the 20th century. After the Second World War , he was given the gallery space on Maximilianstrasse in 1947 - in the middle of downtown Munich and in the same building that also houses the Museum of Five Continents .

This forum got its name Galerie der Künstler in 1981, when a young generation of artists changed the exhibition program and gave the gallery its current profile. The promotion of young artists in Munich and Upper Bavaria became the main task of the exhibition program.

To this day, the BBK and its gallery of artists see themselves as an interface between artists, museums, galleries, the public and the press. Series of exhibitions such as “The First Years of Professionalism” or “Debutants” paved the way for many of today's well-known artists to enter professional life.
