Galina Mikhailovna Savinkova

Galina Michailowna Savinkova ( Russian Галина Михайловна Савинкова , English transcription Galina Savinkova; * July 15, 1953 ) is a former Russian discus thrower who competed for the Soviet Union .

A third place at the Athletics World Cup in Rome in 1981 was followed by a bronze medal at the European Athletics Championships in Athens in 1982 .

On May 22, 1983, she set a world record with 73.26 m. At the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki she was eleventh.

Because of the Soviet Olympic boycott, she missed the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. At the Athletics World Cup in 1985 in Canberra, she was second and at the European Championships in 1986 in Stuttgart sixth.

In 1984 she was Soviet champion with her personal best of 73.28 m.
