Gallo-Roman excavations in Andernos-les-Bains

During the Gallo-Roman excavations in Andernos-les-Bains , a French town in the Gironde department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region , a building from the 4th century was discovered. In 1933 the Gallo-Roman excavations were added to the list of architectural monuments in France as Monument historique .

The excavations in 1903/04 in the former cemetery next to the Saint-Éloi church revealed a building in the shape of a basilica . The main nave opens into an apse reinforced by buttresses . A wall surrounded the apse, possibly an ambulatory.

There were outbuildings on either side of the main nave. All parts of the building were made of quarry stone .
