Gallus von Hochberger
Florian Gallus Ritter von Hochberger born as Florian Gallus Hochberger (born October 15, 1803 in Wohlau near Podersam ; † February 4, 1901 in Karlsbad ) was an Austrian physician, imperial councilor and princely. Reuss-Seitz'scher Hofrat.
Life
Hochberger was born in 1803 as the son of the farmer Franz Wenzl Hochberger and his wife Theresia born. Hainz was born. After attending the school in Podersam, he graduated from high school in Pilsen and studied medicine at Charles University in Prague . On August 29, 1829 he received his doctorate in medicine and surgery. At the beginning he settled as a doctor in Karlsbad . In 1832 he received a commendation from the Imperial and Royal Court Chancellery for his fight against rampant cholera . From 1843 to 1868 he was city and state princely well doctor. When Austrian troops camped in Karlsbad in 1849/1850, it was Hochberger who tirelessly advocated the recovery of the soldiers, some of whom were wounded. At the suggestion of the kk supreme field doctor he received the golden cross of merit with the crown from Emperor Franz Joseph I. When he celebrated his 50th anniversary as a doctor in 1879, he was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Franz Joseph Order. In 1884 he received the title Imperial Councilor. For his services he was granted the honorary citizenship of Franzensbad, Karlsbad, Podersam and Waltsch.
For many years, Hochberger was chairman of the Karlovy Vary district council, from 1890 honorary captain of the Karlovy Vary Rifle Corps. Due to his foundation, several public libraries were built in his city of activity. In his honor, the city of Karlsbad named the spring he discovered and the newly built bridge after him. In 1890 a bust of Ritter von Hochberger was erected.
In 1901, Dr. med. Gallus Ritter von Hochberger at the age of 97. He was the oldest doctor in Austria-Hungary. Numerous newspapers dedicated an obituary to him, including the Prague Medical Weekly.
