Gammel Dansk is a bitter stomach . The Danish name means “Old Danish [bitters]”.

Gammel Dansk is flavored with 29 spices, including angelica , anise , ginger , nutmeg and rowanberry . However, a complete list of ingredients is not published. In Denmark, the variants “Gammel Dansk Bitter Dram” with an alcohol content of 38 % by volume and “Gammel Dansk Citrus Bitter” with 35% by volume are available. Marketed as Morgenbitter, the label promises: Gør godt om morgenen, efter dagens dont, under hunted, på fisketuren eller som apéritif ("Do good in the morning, after the day's troubles, when hunting, fishing or as an aperitif.")

The brand belongs to the Norwegian group ArcusGruppen and run by his daughter Det Danske alcohol Kompagni sold. The Swedish investment company Ratos AB (83.5%) and the Norwegian potato refiner HOFF SA (9.9%) hold shares in ArcusGruppen- Holding . Gammel Dansk has been produced in the Danske Spritfabrikker's Roskilder liqueur factory since 1964 . In 1989 De Danske Spritfabrikker merged with De Danske Sukkerfabrikker and Danisco . In 1994 Gammel Dansk production was relocated to Dalby , and in 1999 the company came under the umbrella of the Swedish company Vin & Sprit . From 2006 Gammel Dansk was created in the parent company in Aalborg . In 2008, the French manufacturer took Pernod Ricard De Danske Spritfabrikker and structured it to Pernod Ricard Denmark A / S to. In 2012 the company was sold to ArcusGruppen. In March 2014 it was announced that production was to be completely relocated to the Arcus headquarters in Norway. The factory in Aalborg closed in April 2015.
