Gan-Erdene Tsend , Mongolian Цэндийн Ган-Эрдэнэ, (born January 4, 1979 in Mörön , Mongolia ) is a German-Mongolian artist whose painterly work represents a symbiosis of Mongolian homeland and German reality.

Life

Gan-Erdene Tsend is the eldest son of Tsend and Sarangerel Vaanchig, four daughters followed him. During his parents' academic years in Ulaanbaatar , Gan-Erdene Tsend lived with his grandmother until the age of seven, who, as a nomad, moved around the stone and sand deserts of the Gobi with her sheep, goats, horses, cattle and camels following the seasons, and only them Winter months spent in permanent quarters. It was also she who taught Gan-Erdene Tsend the traditional fairy tales and Buddhist legends.

From 1986 to 1996 Tsend went to elementary school in Ulaanbaatar. There followed a visit to the so-called 86th Talent School, where he studied traditional Mongolian painting and drawing for four years. In 1996 he enrolled at the University of Culture and Art in Ulaanbaatar, where he was taught manual skills as well as classical and decorative painting from professors Nasantengel and Narangerel.

In 2001 Tsend came to Germany to study at the Münster Art Academy . After two preparatory years, he was a member of Hermann-Josef Kuhna's painting class from 2003 to 2010 , and in 2007 he became his master student. In 2010 he received the academy letter 'with distinction'. Since then he has lived as a freelance artist in Münster. Tsend is married and has two daughters.

Create

The early landscape impressions from the vast landscape of Mongolia determine the artist's visual worlds to this day. His pointillist landscape motifs are determined by distant, high horizons that thematize the barren, often stony ground. Occasionally individual figures with Mongolian facial features or groups of horses populate the desert. When Gan-Erdene Tsend adds landmarks of Germany's sprawled cultural landscape, such as beach houses on stilts, to the boundless nature of Mongolia, he combines the basic themes of his two home countries in his paintings. In his surreal figurative works, too, Gan-Erdene Tsend joins things together that cannot exist at the same time. He uses reflections that only reflect part of reality and shadows that follow their own logic in order to link different levels of reality with one another and to create works that are reminiscent of dreams and thoughts.
