Lakatamia ( Greek Λακατάμια , Turkish Lakadamya ) is a town in the district of Nicosia in Cyprus . In 2011 it had 38,345 inhabitants.
geography
Lakatamia is located in the north of the Republic of Cyprus, southwest of the capital Nicosia . The city is located in the greater Nicosia area and forms a suburb of Nicosia. The closed Nicosia Airport is located northwest of the urban area .
history
Until 1979 Lakatamia was divided into Pano (upper) and Kato (lower) Lakatamia . In the course of the urbanization of the area around Nicosia, the merger to form the municipality followed.

In the area of the municipality the A9 runs west and the ring road B22 around Nicosia.
