List of cities in Cyprus
The list of cities in Cyprus provides an overview of the larger cities on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus .
The table contains the cities and municipalities with more than 4000 inhabitants , the results of the census (VZ) in the Republic of Cyprus from October 1, 2001 and an estimate for January 1, 2005.
In the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus , a census was carried out on April 30, 2006.
Also listed is the District of the Republic of Cyprus and the District of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to which the city belongs.
The population figures refer to the respective municipality within its political boundaries without politically independent suburbs.
By far the largest agglomeration on Cyprus is its capital Nicosia with a population of 242,788 (as of January 1, 2005); this means that around a third of the country's population is concentrated in the capital region. Nicosia is divided by a buffer zone secured by UN troops. 49,237 people live in North Nicosia (2006 census) and 47,832 people in South Nicosia (2001 census).
