The Famagusta District is a district of the Republic of Cyprus . The capital is de jure the port city of the same name, Famagusta . The administrative center is de facto the Paralimni municipality .
Most of the district including the main town is de facto controlled by Northern Cyprus , only a small area in the south is administered by the Republic of Cyprus. This southern part of the district has 46,629 inhabitants. The northern part of the Famagusta district corresponds to the Gazimağusa and İskele districts .
Due to its small size, the district administration also acts as a representative for the displaced residents of the de facto area.
