Akıncılar , Greek Λουρουτζίνα Louroujina , is a village in the north of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus in the Lefkoşa district of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus . Formally, the place belongs to the Nicosia District of the Republic of Cyprus .
geography
The place is enclosed on three sides by the United Nations buffer zone. It is only accessible to the rest of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus via a road north of the village, which runs through a military area of the Turkish armed forces .
history
Before 1960, Cypriot Turks and Cypriot Greeks lived together in Akıncılar. Turks made up the majority in the village, Greeks were in the minority. Akıncılar was one of the largest Turkish towns in Cyprus until 1974. After the invasion of Turkish troops , the place was taken by Turkish forces. In 1975 the place became part of the Turkish Federal State of Cyprus and has been part of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus since 1983 .
Sports
The Cyprus-Turkish association Akıncılar Gençlik Spor Kulübü was founded in 1942. From 2016 the club plays in the K-PET İkinci Lig of the Kıbrıs Türk Futbol Federasyonu .
