Gaoua is a city and a department in the West African state of Burkina Faso , each comprising the same area.
Gaoua is the capital of the Sud-Ouest region and the Poni province . Including the 56 villages belonging to the commune urbaine, it has 52,090 inhabitants, and 18,496 as a single settlement divided into eight sectors.
The Lobi are the predominant ethnic group in Gaoua and live mainly from agriculture. In the city is the Musée des civilizations du sud-ouest .
