The Gardaschinge or Gardaklemme is used as a backstop where a rope should block when pulled in one direction, but slide in the other direction. It offers the great advantage of being able to be carried out with the aid of sports and technical climbing aids that are usually carried along. You need two identical carabiners in a loop of the quickdraw set , in place of a cord strop . The finished Gardaschinge blocks when the load rope is pulled. The system is simple, safe and comprehensible, can be easily manufactured, but has the disadvantage that the clamping can only be released when the load rope is relieved.

application

The Gardaschling is used as a backstop in the pulley system. This blocks the load rope after each lift. The deflection or pulley can then be shifted for a further lift, and longer lift paths must also be managed when lifting loads.

The Garda sling is especially in mountain rescue , in crevasse rescue on glaciers and in the high-altitude rescue used, for example, when Swiss tackle , in which self-pulley or Münchhausenplatz technology .

Knot

Two identical carabiner hooks are hooked into one end of a quickdraw and the rope is inserted into the two carabiners. The pull rope, in whose pulling direction the rope should slide, (running downwards in the picture) is inserted a second time into the snap hook into which the load rope runs parallel and in the same direction as the load rope. This time, however, it is only hooked into one carabiner and then brought out again between the two carabiners.

Alternatives

  • An inexpensive backstop is a cord with a Prusik knot or other clamping knot. However, it is more complicated to use because the knot has to be pushed in by hand after each stroke. That also makes him more insecure, because it takes an extra hand.
  • If no identical carbines are available, then a backstop with a can descender and a carbine as Kara-eight loop to be built.
  • A mechanical backstop is the cable clamp (breast clamp) or the ascender .
  • There are pulleys with built-in backstops.
  • The Tibloc is particularly lightweight but less gentle on the rope .
