Koen Daerden (born March 8, 1982 in Tongeren ) is a former Belgian football player who, after being out of a club for a few months, played for MVV Maastricht in the Dutch Eerste Divisie from the end of January to the end of December 2014 . He is the son of the former soccer player and current soccer coach Jos Daerden .

Player career

Koen Daerden comes from the youth of the biggest team in his hometown, SC Tongeren. In 1999, the talented midfielder was signed by the Belgian top team KRC Genk . Although he only made two goalless appearances in his first professional season, he has already won his first title - the Belgian Cup. In the following years he became a regular player and was one of the pillars in the KRC team that won the championship in 2002.

In summer 2006 he announced his move to the Champions League participant Club Bruges . With Bruges he won the Belgian Cup for the second time in his career in 2007. On January 15, 2010, his move to Standard Liège was announced. There he could not prevail and was mostly only a substitute. For the 2011/12 season he was awarded to the league competitor VV St. Truiden , but was bottom of the table with the club at the end of the season. After half a year without a club, Daerden was signed on January 28, 2013 by the Dutch second division club MVV Maastricht . He only stayed there until the end of the year, before he decided to end his active career at the age of 32.

Between 2002 and 2007 he made nine caps for the Belgian national team and scored three goals. He scored as many goals in nine games for Belgium U-18s between 2000 and 2001 and in eight games for Belgium's U-21 national team between 2001 and 2003 .
