The Garden of Delight ( GOD for short ) was a German music formation. Numerous publications followed an overarching concept; the texts were often mystical .

history

The band was founded in 1990 by Artaud Seth and the Italian Pisacane. Pisacane left the band in 1991 after the release of the first album and was replaced by the Irish Thomas O'Connell. In 1993 Adrian Hates ( Diary of Dreams ) joined and completed the line-up for the time being. The first concert took place on December 9, 1992 in Halle (Saale).

The basic concept was to release seven albums with seven songs each in seven years and then split up. The Garden of Delight were one of the leading German gothic rock bands in the early and mid 90s. To date the band has sold over 150,000 records. Despite the success, the last concert took place as planned on October 27, 1997 in Derby (Great Britain).

After the dissolution, Artaud Seth founded the Chaos God project with Thomas O'Connell, Mike York and Tom Nass , which was relatively unsuccessful. A tour had to be canceled by drummer Nass after a serious traffic accident.

Seth's new compositions were more suited to The Garden of Delight than Chaos God, and so the band was reanimated in 2000. The Garden of Delight was also successful with the Radiant Sons and Dawn albums .

Around the same time that Jawa Seth, now Artaud's wife, joined the band, Thomas O'Connell got out and joined the Gods Army project , which he left again in 2007. In 2003 the albums Apocryphal I: The Fallen and Apocryphal II: The Faithful , which deal with the book of Enoch , were released. This was followed by the DVD Apocryphal Moments, recorded on November 15, 2003 at La Laiterie in Strasbourg , with two promo videos, a hidden video and a bonus CD with remixes, live tracks and unreleased material.

Subsequently, three albums were released from 2005 under the banner "GOD featuring Lutherion". Each album was released as a very elaborate double digipack with a bonus CD. The music shows the heavier side of The Garden of Delight and increasingly relies on crossover and electro elements, as they were already used in Chaos God. The band celebrated successful concerts again (including in Athens, Valencia and Moscow).

On August 25, 2007, the end of The Garden of Delight was announced. On October 12, 2007, the last studio album Darkest Hour and the single Reign were released . The final concert took place on November 1st, 2008 in Berlin in the K17 and was released on May 15th, 2009 on DVD / CD.

Under the name Lutherion the album was in November 2009 Cosmogenesis (this time exclusively with German sung pieces) published. Due to unresolved copyright issues relating to the title Winterland , the album was reprinted in December 2009, with some of the older tracks being replaced or recorded in alternative versions. Before that, three single releases (Psychonaut, Sodomie & Nebelthron) were released for the album in the course of 2009.

After the dissolution of Garden of Delight, the new Merciful Nuns project was founded in 2010 .
