Diary of Dreams is a German band around the singer Adrian Hates . Initially settled in the dark wave environment, the music of Diary of Dreams changed drastically from the turn of the millennium and elements from electro and future pop were added.

Band history

Before 1989, Adrian Hates was a guitarist in two school bands for some time , but they did not seem suitable to him to realize his musical and lyrical ideas. In 1989 he wrote the guitar piece Diary of Dreams , which finally gave him the inspiration for the band name Diary of Dreams . In search of other musicians who shared his ideas, he only found the guitarist Alistair Kane, with whom he founded Diary of Dreams in 1989. The first four demo tracks recorded in 1990 were never released because Adrian thought they were too bad.

In 1994 the debut album Cholymelan was finally released on Dion Fortune Records , the label of Garden of Delight , with which Adrian Hates played bass since 1992 . Inspired by Dion Fortune, Adrian Hates founded his own label Accession Records in 1995 , on which all later releases appeared.

For the recordings of psychoma? In 1998, Diary of Dreams was expanded to include Christian Berghoff (guitar) and [Os] mium ( keyboard ). In 1999 the debut album Cholymelan was re-released and the compilation Moments of Bloom was released with remixes. Christian Berghoff left Diary of Dreams to live in London for a year. After his return he only worked for Accession Records. Torben Wendt (keyboard and vocals), singer and mastermind of Diorama , came as a replacement , and he added Adrian Hates in particular with vocals.

In 2001 Alistair Kane got out and was replaced by Lil'K, who in turn was replaced by Gaun: A a year later. In addition, Ray: X was the first drummer in the band's history, but he left Diary of Dreams in 2004 and became a keyboardist for Psyche . DNS ( Suicide Commando , Tactical Sekt , Feindflug , Davantage ) came as a replacement in 2004 . In addition, [Os] mium left Diary of Dreams for professional reasons and was replaced by Kean Sanders, who now takes turns with Torben Wendt. The recordings for Nigredo 2004 were something special in the history of Diary of Dreams, as Gaun: A was the first Diary of Dreams member to go into the studio together with Adrian Hates. Gaun: A can also be seen on the promo pictures for Nigredo . Gaun: A was also involved in the recordings of Menschfeind .

This was followed by the EP Menschfeind , the live album Alive (both 2005) and the album Nekrolog 43 (2007). With this album Adrian Hates and Gaun: A dared to take a step in the direction of organic music for the first time - so they tried to bring in more “real” instruments. At the beginning of 2009, the ninth CD in the band's history was announced under the name (if) . It was released on March 13th, 2009 and contains four bonus songs on its own CD called g (if) t .

With Ego: X a new album was released on August 26, 2011, which in turn was released as a double CD ("X1" and "X2"), with X2 also containing four bonus songs. Martin Keßler , known as the dubbing voice of Nicolas Cage and Vin Diesel , took on a speaking role in six pieces ( Intro , Element 1: Zeitgeist , Element 2: Illusion , Element 3: Stagnation , Element 4: Fear , and Element: 5: Resignation ). Adrian Hates also sang a duet with the English singer Amelia Brightman, sister of Sarah Brightman , for the first time on the track "Push Me" .

On October 19, 2012, Diary of Dreams released the first acoustic album entitled The Anatomy of Silence , on which 10 Diary of Dreams songs were acoustically interpreted. In the same month the band played an acoustic tour of the same name in 13 cities, including the Lukaskirche (Dresden) and the Christ Church in Bochum . Gaun: A also played the double bass and Felix Gerlach cello for the first time.

In autumn 2015 the band released the 15th studio album Grau im Licht . The album is described as being heavier than the previous releases.

A side project by Adrian Hates and Gaun: A is ".com / kill".

Discography
