Gardie House with pier

The Gardie House Pier is a pier on the Scottish Shetland island of Bressay . It belongs to the Gardie House mansion on the west coast of the island. In 1997 the facility was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in Category B.

description

The facility is located on the west coast of Bressay on Bressay Sound across from the town of Lerwick on Mainland . Just a few hundred meters south is the Maryfield jetty , which is also listed, as well as the ferry dock, which is served daily by Mainland. The structure dates from the early 18th century and was modernized in the 19th century. It protrudes into the Bressay Sound in a westerly direction with a slight bend to the south. The pier is complemented by a small boathouse that is connected to a wooden lifting crane by iron rails. A wooden cart with cast-iron wheels, which was probably used to transport the boats between the boathouse and the crane, is only partially preserved today. The quarry stone structure is a striking detail on Skene's depiction of Gardie House from 1812 and still contributes significantly to the overall impression of the property today.
