Gardner's Warehouse is a commercial building in the Scottish city ​​of Glasgow . In 1966 the building was included as an individual monument in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

The building was built between 1855 and 1856 to a design by Scottish architect John Baird . In 1908 a design for a new building was made by Baird & Thomson , but it was not implemented.

Gardner's Warehouse is located at the junction of Midland Street and Jamaica Street in central Glasgow. Glasgow Central Railway Station is at the rear . The four-story building is designed in a classical style. It is the first non-public building in the UK to be constructed from prefabricated cast iron elements . The technology was unveiled last year with the opening of the Crystal Palace in London. The facade is four axes along Jamaica Street and three axes along Midland Street. The five windows with arches on each axis are made of cast iron elements. The gussets are ornamented. Continuous pilasters divide the facade vertically. Flat shop windows are let into the ground floor. A frieze with lettering runs over it. The cornice above is designed with a tooth cut . A disc frieze runs beneath the final cornice with a tooth cut .
