Gardner is an impact crater on the northeastern front of the moon , on the northern edge of Mare Tranquillitatis , southwest of Maraldi crater . The crater is bowl-shaped and little eroded.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1976 after the American physicist Irvine Clifton Gardner .
