Gardnos is an impact crater formed by a meteorite impact in the area of Nesbyen in Hallingdal in Norway .

The diameter of the crater is 5 km. It was formed when a meteorite with an estimated diameter of 200 to 300 meters struck about 546 million years ago.

At first it was believed that the Gardnos crater was a structure of volcanic origin; In 1990 scientists Johan Naterstad and Johannes A. Dons discovered that the crater was created by a meteorite impact.

A crater structure cannot be seen on the ground. However, impactites are easy to find in the area, which is well developed for visitors. Gardnos breccias are clearly visible and accessible in a nearby creek bed, as the creek hardly has any water below it due to a higher dam. Suevite can also be found there, as well as on the signposted circular routes.
