The Gargoyle Bastion is a 60 m high and rocky headland with an almost vertical seaward cliff front on the northeast coast of Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It towers over neighboring cliffs on the south side of Hydra Cove .
The headland, like other geographic features in the Williams Point area, is named after a mythical creature. In 1998, the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee chose the Gargoyle , a dragon-like monster, as its namesake .
