Garnet Clark (* 1917 in Washington, DC , † 1938 in Paris ) was an American jazz - pianist . He played with Django Reinhardt .

Live and act

Garnet Clark was revered as a musical prodigy from childhood and was already working as a professional pianist and arranger in the orchestra of drummer Tommy Myles at the age of sixteen . He came to New York in 1933 ; there he recorded some tracks with Alex Hill and played in Charlie Barnet's band . Benny Carter recommended him to Willie Lewis in Paris, where he arrived in 1935. Immediately after his arrival he played in a session with Django Reinhardt and Bill Coleman , in which he acted as leader ( Garnet Clark's Hot Club Four ). On November 25th, the titles Rosetta, Stardust and The Object of My Affection emerged ; they were the young pianist's most important recordings. He then decided to pursue a solo career, performed in Switzerland and accompanied the singer Adelaide Hall . Garnet Clark, only 21 years old, was to die in a hospital near Paris just three years after the Reinhardt session.

His piano playing processed influences from Earl Hines and Fats Waller and is close to the fluid and easy playing of Teddy Wilson .
