Garnet Mimms & the Enchanters

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Garnet Mimms & the Enchanters were an American soul band , best known for their summer hit from 1963 ( "Cry Baby" ).

Zola Pernell had previously sung in the Paul Roberts Choir in Europe , Sam Bell was a songwriter and Charles Boyer was a member of a gospel choir before the three formed a soul trio in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania in the early 1960s . The piano player Garnet Mimms (born November 26, 1933 as Garrett Mimms in Ashland , West Virginia ) joined them later . As a quartet, they received a record deal in 1963. Their first record "Cry Baby" became an instant hit and rose to number 4 on the American charts.

Several records followed, such as "Baby Don't You Weep" , "For Your Precious Love" or "One Girl" , which however did not reach high chart positions.

Garnet Mimms later had smaller successes as a soloist ( "I'll Take Good Care For You" , 1965, and "What It Is" , 1977).
