Under Elector Friedrich III. The school was donated in 1692 and housed in a house near the Spandauer Tor . A neighboring house was added as early as 1793.

When Friedrich III. In 1701, when King Friedrich I became King , he donated a new, simple school building. To this end, he had an old horse stable converted in what was then Wallstrasse (later Neue Friedrichstrasse, from 1951 Littenstrasse, from 1978 part of Burgstrasse and since 2001 Anna-Louisa-Karsch-Strasse). The building was built together with the garrison church according to plans by Martin Grünberg . One of the first students and later a teacher was the architectural and plan draftsman Johann Friedrich Walter . He lived in the school's official apartment for a few years and witnessed the devastating explosion of the powder tower oppositeon August 12, 1720, during which the school, the rectory and the garrison church were destroyed. Since the accident occurred during class, all the students were buried, 35 of whom could only be recovered dead. Friedrich Wilhelm I provided for a new school building: in 1722 he had the neighboring house of Colonel von Glasenapp , which was built in 1705 at his own expense and which had also been badly damaged, repaired and dedicated it to the garrison school. An important rector of the garrison school was Wilhelm Jakob Wippel from 1784 to 1792 . Due to the increasing number of soldiers garrisoned in Berlin, the school was increased by one floor from 1785 to 1787 by the building adjudicator Johann Friedrich Friedel . In 1825/26 the building was raised by another floor. A well-known resident of the house was the folk writer Emil Frommel , who was appointed pastor of the garrison church in 1869 and lived there until 1896. Until 1945 the building was still used as a parish and school house. From 2009 to 2015 it was used by the Poll gallery .
