Garrett Oliver

Garrett Oliver (born July 29, 1962 in Hollis New York City, USA) is an American brewer and beer author .

Life

Oliver grew up in Hollis with his father, who was passionate about hunting and cooking.

Oliver trained as a filmmaker at Boston University ; During his studies he organized concerts for well-known bands. After completing his studies, he received an additional qualification for stage-managing music groups at the University of London for a year and during that time traveled throughout continental Europe to countries such as Belgium , West Germany and Czechoslovakia to get to know different beer cultures. After returning to the USA in 1983, he began to process these experiences as a hobby brewer . At the same time, he worked at Home Box Office and a film law firm.

In 1989 Oliver was hired as a brewer for the Manhattan Brewing Company of New York ; In 1993 he became a master brewer there. In 1994 he moved to Brooklyn Brewery and began to get involved in the Slow Food movement.

In May 2012, Oliver was recognized by the Institute of Brewing and Distilling as International Beer Champion and Honorary Beer Academy Sommelier .
