Garry John Orriss (born October 7, 1967 in Sydney ) is a British-Australian painter and photographer . He lives and works in the Berlin district of Prenzlauer Berg .

Life

Garry Orriss has German, French and Irish ancestry and was adopted as a child by an Australian couple of British descent.

In Sydney he studied from 1985 to 1988 at the Meadowbank School of Fine Art (degree: Art Certificate) and at the City Art Institute .

After learning of his adoption, he cycled through 45 countries between 1990 and 1995 to the birthplace of his adoptive father in Oxford. Later he met his birth German mother, an artist and photographer living near Heilbronn.

He recorded his impressions in sketch diaries, and drawings were published in several exhibitions.

Garry Orriss went to China for a short time in 1999 and worked there for several companies, including Hotel Kempinski .

He was best known for his high-contrast images of couples who break through cultural, social, political or religious taboos.
