Garden shed Twiete 1

history

Both buildings are 40 m apart in the elongated and large gardens of two classicist residential buildings. They were not used for residential purposes, but for recreation and for civil representation. The cellars of the houses also had practical use as wine cellars.

The Twiete 1 garden shed was built between 1830 and 1850. It is located in the garden of the classicist town house at Königsstrasse 24, built by the judicial officer Franz Friedrich Bernhard Höynck (1764–1845). The floor plan is elongated and octagonal. Later the neo-baroque entrance area was built in front. Originally it was a half-timbered building, later it was partially slated. The house has been fundamentally renovated several times. So in the 1930s and 1980s.

Garden house Koenigsstrasse

The garden house at Königstrasse 28 (now 36) was built between 1822 and 1830 in the garden of a neighboring house. After the takeover by the poor school sisters and the establishment of the Mariengymnasium , the garden house was also part of the school complex. The house is rectangular and has a classical appearance. This little house, too, was initially a half-timbered building before it was clad with slate on three sides.

Both buildings are among the last examples in Westphalia and have been a listed building since 1983.

The city of Arnsberg acquired the two houses from the previous owners in 2006. The buildings, some of which were very dilapidated, were restored with the help of the Lebendige Stadt Foundation . The redesign of the surrounding area was partially completed and the building was officially opened to the public on September 13, 2009. As early as July 2008, the two houses were selected as Monument of the Month by the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe .
