The Garden City Plaue is a settlement in the Plaue district in Brandenburg an der Havel in Brandenburg . The housing estate is about 500 meters north of the city of Plaue. The garden city of Plaue is a listed building.

The settlement

The garden city building movement arose in England at the end of the 19th century . The triggers were the districts with a high population and poor hygienic conditions during this time. For these reasons, the architect Paul Schmitthenner planned the garden city of Staaken from 1914 and the garden city of Plaue from 1916. The builder was the Plaue building cooperative. According to the listed building, the Garden City Plaue comprises the following houses: Lewaldstraße 1, 2a-23, 23, a, 24, 25, 25b, 26–44, 46, 48, 50, Bredowstraße 1–2, Querstraße I 1–16, Querstraße II 1 –20, 22, 24, Scheidtstrasse 1–47, Triftstrasse 1–16, Waldstrasse 1–22 and Wasserwerkstrasse 1–10.

The size of the garden city depends on the terrain. It stands on a slightly elevated area within a meadow landscape . The meadows were often flooded, so it was not possible to expand. Already existing paths with their trees were preserved during the construction, further paths were laid out in such a way that the plots were about the same size. The main street of the settlement is Lewaldstraße, in the middle of the street there are no trees on the north side. Here the street has the character of a rough place. Scheidstrasse in the east of the settlement is only built on one side; according to Schneidhenner, it should form an "inhabited city wall". The streets from Scheidstraße to Lewaldstraße, Querstraße I and Querstraße II have houses in the middle of the street. The former isolated location is now canceled by building development in the south and north of the housing estate. The gates, the children's playground and the ring around the settlement have also disappeared. Despite changes due to renovations and the construction of garages on the property, especially in the 1980s, the character of the settlement has been preserved. On the northwest side of the square on Lewaldstrasse there is a boulder with an inscription on a metal plate for the 100th anniversary of the settlement.

The houses are single-storey, eaves-standing houses and are plastered. The roof is usually hipped at the ends of the rows. Otherwise, the Satteldacher have bat dormers. The facades facing the street are characterized by triangular gables, some of the facades also have risalit-like surfaces. As standard, a house has a living room on the street side and an eat-in kitchen on the back. In the extension on the courtyard side there is a bathroom, a toilet, a laundry room, a storage room and a stable. The bedrooms are in the attic. There are variations of the houses through lateral extensions.
