Architecture and history

The plant is one of the oldest urban gas works. The site was developed in 1863, probably in connection with the opening of the Magdeburg – Thale railway line immediately south of the site . The founding was largely due to the mayor of Quedlinburg, Gustav Brecht . There are several industrial buildings from the second half of the 19th century on the site. Several gasometers , some of which have been converted, have been preserved. In addition, there is an administration building and workshop building that have been preserved from the time the plant was founded. Some of the houses are designed in a round arch style. The facades are characterized by the alternation of stone and brickwork.
