Jamburg gas field

The Jamburg gas field is the third largest contiguous gas field in the world and the second largest on Russian soil. It is located in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug , in Tyumen Oblast , 148.5 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle .

history

The gas field was discovered in 1969 by the Soviet geologist Vasily Tichonowitsch Podschibjakin , and in 1980 commercial development began, so that operations could begin in 1986. The gas field is operated by Gazprom's subsidiary Gazprom dobycha Yamburg.

Reserves

The remaining gas reserves of the Jamburg field are estimated at 6.9 trillion cubic meters . The gas field extends over an area of ​​170 km by 50 km.
