Gasparan (or Gasparian) (* allegedly 1573 in Danzig ) is the fictional title hero of a novel by Andreas Venzke , who - supposedly as the diary of the seaman Heinrich Hasebeck - describes Gasparan's experiences as a synonym for the sufferings not only of ordinary seamen .

In the novel Gasparan gives his age in 1595 as 22, when he was interviewed by the Spaniards in Gran Canaria . There he had probably tried to escape from the fleet under the command of John Hawkins and Francis Drake . He was born in Danzig as a free city in the Kingdom of Poland, which helps the Polish king when necessary. He also stated: “I was captured in a ship by the English and taken to England, where I was forced to sail in Drake's ship in Plymouth, from where they transferred me to another ship that had a broken top mast .
