Gaspard Delpy

Gaspard Delpy (born November 8, 1888 in Tarascon-sur-Ariège , † December 11, 1952 in Paris ) was a French Romanist and Hispanist .

Life

Delpy attended high school in Foix . He studied in Bordeaux, then in Paris at the École normal supérieure . In 1913 he passed the Agrégation and was a high school teacher in Tulle , Mont-de-Marsan and Bayonne (there with Georges Hérelle ). In 1933 he went to the Lycée Carnot in Paris. He completed his habilitation in 1937 at the Sorbonne with Ernest Martinenche with the Thèses Feijoo et l'esprit européen. Essai sur les idées maîtresses dans le "Théâtre critique" et les "Lettres érudites" 1725-1760 (published by T. L'Espagne et l'esprit européen. L'oeuvre de Feijoo 1725-1760 , Paris 1936) and Bibliography des sources françaises de B. Feijoo (Paris 1936).

Delpy was from 1938 professor of Spanish at the University of Bordeaux . In 1945 he went to the Sorbonne and held the Spanish professorship from 1948 until his death.
