The Gastfeld is a cultural bar in Bremen - Neustadt , district Gartenstadt Süd, Gastfeldstraße 67, which has been in existence for more than 100 years and is known for its indie pop concerts.
The house was built in 1906/07 according to plans by Johann Diedrich Biermann. It has been a listed building in Bremen since 2012 .

history

The three-storey, plastered structure with a mansard roof , ornamental framework in the side gable and a striking, four-storey corner tower with a bell dome and a lantern was built in 1906/07 in typical forms of late historicism in the reform style. The house, planned as a corner house, shapes the local townscape. The State Office for Monument Preservation Bremen found: The building "marks a significant urban development situation, as its design and arrangement refers to a stuck plan, namely the extension of Sedanstrasse beyond Gastfeldstrasse ... 'Corner house without a corner' ... The building is therefore a important document of the urban development history of Bremer Neustadt in the dynamic decades of the early days . "

The guest field is said to be the oldest still existing inn in Bremen Neustadt. It was opened in 1911 by the house owner at the time, Wilhelm Siemering. It still has many furnishings from the year it was founded. For many decades, the restaurant was the center of club life in Bremer Neustadt, but in 2011 it was transformed into a culture bar that, in addition to first exhibitions of young photo artists and literary events, goes far beyond the borders with ambitious indie pop concerts by up-and-coming bands that are making their debut in Bremen became known in the city. Many bands are discovered and promoted by the guest field. The heavily attended concerts initially took place on two consecutive days, and since 2014 on three days. Since 2013 the guest field has been organizing an evening at Bremen's largest music festival, Breminale, with "its" bands and is involved in other festivals. There has been a cooperation with Radio Bremen since 2015 .

Gastfeld is the Low German word for barley field. That was the field name of the area there before it was built on from 1875. The name was based on the cultivation of barley for the Bremen breweries.
